Asthma patients across California will be equipped with a powerful tool to protect themselves and their families from dangerous wildfire smoke and air pollution.

Breathium is expanding access to the FightAsthma Tracker, a multilingual, text-based service that delivers real-time air quality alerts, healthy breathing tips, and access to care resources during hazardous pollution episodes. Wildfire smoke and ash inhalation can trigger life-threatening breathing emergencies.

During the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, the FightAsthma Tracker helped thousands of asthma patients and their families stay safe. “The texts were a lifesaver. They reminded me to protect myself and avoid a crisis—thank you!" said one recipient.

Members of Health Net, one of California’s most experienced Medi-Cal managed care health plans, are eligible for enrollment into the FightAsthma Tracker.  In clinical studies, severe asthma patients with the Tracker’s personalized healthy breathing texts experienced an over 80 percent reduction in hospital visits while significantly improving their quality of life.

"Wildfire smoke and dangerous air pollution are unavoidable realities," said Ray Cheung, CEO at Breathium. "With the FightAsthma Tracker accessible across the state, more Californians can safeguard their health."
